Yeah I’ve waited too long on this one. Hailing from Cardiff, Lung. is highly-talented dubstep/drum & bass producer. One of his most popular tracks to date is entitled, ‘Afterlife‘ and putting any remix of it aside, the original is simply brilliant. Dark, intricate, and to some extent enigmatic the beat is effortlessly abstract.

I stumbled across a remix from none other than Kryptic Minds around early July and i’ve been waiting for a better version to drop before I unleashed it on you guys but fuck it. Bearing in mind my love for the duo may make my views slightly biased, this remix is incredible.

One thing that is starting to piss me off ever so slightly is how some people are comparing the track to the work Burial and then have the nerve to say the duo are just copying his style. Hmmm… OK two things. Firstly, although Burial’s work is some of the best i’ve ever had the pleasure to listen to, you can’t just give him this entire sub-genre of dubstep. Secondly, other artists are and indeed should be trying to make something of a similar nature as opposed to slapping a few drops and wobbles here and there in their music. It really is a shame how some artists can just repeat the same trick in every track of theirs and get away with it.

Kele – ‘Everything You Wanted’ (RAC Remix)

For those of you have listened to Kele Okereke‘s debut solo album, ‘The Boxer‘, you must heard the track, ‘Everything You Wanted‘ – it stood out. Furthermore, you had to have liked it (you honestly don’t have a choice in the matter.). It’s just his voice, he’s got that tone which you can’t not like. The hook is genuinely incredible. To remix the single Kele appointed Andre Allen Anjos, the founder and coordinator of Remix Artist Collective (RAC) to showcase his talent.

Having premiered it on RCRD LBL the remix itself is features a brilliant array of synth jabs over a more jaunty beat. Check it out after the jump and give us your thoughts.

Chase & Status – ‘Let You Go’ (Nero + Brookes Brothers Remixes)

Towards the end of last week we posted the new single from the London based drum & bass duo, ‘Chase & Status‘. Entitled, ‘Let You Go‘ the track features the vocals of 17 year old Mali - like I previously said, I don’t know much about him but he’s obviously talented..

Yesterday, the duo dropped two new remixes of the single on their YouTube account. Who by? I hear you whisper.. Get this, Nero and the Brookes Brothers.

The Nero remix is exactly as you would imagine. Hard. With some dark, driving synth-lines, heavy bass drops and just a general overall malevolent vibe, the duo have their remixes down to a science. Honestly, do they ever disappoint? The Brookes Brothers remix has a more up-tempo/club feel to it. The drop has that quintessential drum & bass finish wrapped around it which makes for a quality listen. Both remixes are on point and definitely worth checking out.

Kelis – “22nd Century” (Blaze Tripp Remix)

Blaze Tripp dropped this one in our inbox this morning so I thought i’d give it a quick spin. Claiming, ‘22nd Century is one of the raddest tracks off Kelis‘ new album ‘Fleshtone.’ and that he had to ‘flip it up and make it a little crazier for his own sets.’ – He sure did. With the tricky synths thrown into some hard basslines this remix is insane.

Make sure you check it out and if you haven’t already listened to Kelis’ new album make sure do, it’s well worth it.

Pendulum – ‘Witchcraft’ (Netsky Remix)

Admit, you like Pendulum. It’s fine, everyone does don’t worry about it… They’ve been doing they’re thing since what, 2002? and they’re still going strong.. It seems some people are, however, beginning to yawn a bit with their slightly repetitive style. Don’t get me wrong, if you’re out and about in the early hours of the morning and this drops – make sure you’re wearing protection because this shit would be insane.

Even though it’s obvious they can’t completely drop the style that got them to where they are, they could still try something a bit different. All i’m saying is that it wont hurt them to craft something which is ‘outside the box’ as far as the band’s normal style is concerned.

Mixed ‘Immersion‘ reviews aside, it seems Pendulum aren’t going anywhere and fair play to them. Their latest single, ‘Witchcraft‘ falls pretty nicely into the archetypal ‘Pendulum mould’ with the visual dropping about a week or two ago.

From the remix side of things, it seems my boy Netsky is holding the fort with what seems to be a shred of nonchalance. I sang his praises a couple of days ago with his remix of the Swedish House Mafia’s, ‘One’ but it seems the highly talented drum & bass producer can’t be stopped.

Swedish House Mafia – ‘One’ (Netsky Remix)

I always have been and I honestly think I always will be a massive fan of the ‘remix’. Just the concept alone appeals to me. An artist ‘makes’ or comes up with a song and then passes it on, or indeed other artists comes along to the original artist and wish to alter the song ever-so-slightly to appeal to a wider or a more niche audience.

‘One‘ is the first official single from the incredibly talented Swedish House Mafia. Comprised of three DJ’s/Producers; Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso, the single features vocal additions from none other than Pharrell (of the Neptunes & N*E*R*D) and remixes from a number of well established artists including Caspa and Congorock.

My favourite remix on the single, however, is by one of the exciting drum & bass producers around, Netsky. Simply put, he well and truly nails it. Thats all I can really say on the matter, this is what remixes are for. He’s already been getting the recognition that he deserves from a number of key DJ’s in the game including the likes of Annie Mac and rightly so. Honestly, the drop in this is what it’s all about. It puts a smile on my face every time…

Plan B – ‘Prayin’ (Chase & Status Remix)

Ever since we dropped the incredible Breakage remix of Plan B‘s latest single, ‘Prayin”, we’ve been on the look-out for the highly anticipated Chase & Status remix. Surely enough Zane Lowe came through as per usual and dropped it on Monday as his ‘Hottest Record Of The Day’.

My first impression was that this was just a routine remix for the London duo but having given the remix a couple more spins, a must say, I like it. It’s got that ‘orthodox’ drum & bass sort of feel to it and i’m loving the short piano cameo over the hard drum beat. I wouldn’t mind hearing it live to be honest…

New Rusko & Jakwob Remixes

First up on the remix front today it’s the Rusko remix of Kelis‘ ’4th of July (Fireworks)’ that i’ve been meaning to post for a while now. The track itself has already had a few big names feature on the remixes such as Calvin Harris, which we posted not so long ago. Rusko flips this one into a relatively slow paced affair. With the ‘arcade game’ synths and the heavy hitting bass wobbles on the hook, Rusko definitely delivers on this one.

Kelis – 4th Of July (Fireworks) (Rusko Remix)

Next up we’ve got the new James Jacob aka Jakwob remix of I Blame CoCo‘s, ‘Self Machine’. Having already been remixed by the like of La Roux, Sub Focus it now has a few more artists to include on the roster including the likes of Chew Fu and Pangea.

I’ve always rated Jakwob ever since his massive ‘Starry Eyed’ remix earlier this year. His latest venture is a brilliantly well crafted mixture of drum kicks, bass-heavy synth lines and an array of cut vocals blended over the top. This track is definitely worth getting, make sure you check out the video to the original as well …

Rihanna – ‘Rude Boy’ (Afrojack Goes Crazy Mix)

I think i’m a bit late on this one but I still have to post it. Afrojack tears this one up. Straight from the off with hypnotic drum-beat to the languidly surmounting synths which follow on by effortlessly translating into the different stages of the track. Moreover, he seamlessly throws all of that over a more pulsating Rihanna performance, chopping and changing her vocals to get what has to be considered by any music lover, a brilliant track.

2010 is definitely a big year for Afrojack. He’s got all the hype and recognition from his fans and fellow artists but let’s hope he proves to everyone that he is pretty much a big deal. Definitely check this one out and let us know what you think…
