Every blog and their dog posted something about the legend that is, Michael Jackson after he tragically passed a few months back. Us here at TrueToSound didn’t, therefore I think it’s only right that we post the new single being released by SonyBMG to commemorate his death. It’s taken from the new film ‘This Is It’ which is to hit cinemas very soon.

Number 1. Easy.

Michael Jackson – This Is It

Time for some UK Hip-Hop now. Chipmunk scored his debut number 1 single yesterday with his hit ‘Oopsy Daisy.’ I’m actually happy for the dude and what it says for UK Hip-Hop. He’s worked hard and successfully completed the transition from Grime artist to Mainstream success. This is the latest single from fellow grime artist Scorcher. It’s called ‘Lipsin Ting’ and features a relatively unknown Liam Francis. I doubt it will be hittin radio but it’s not a bad tune from Scorch.

Scorcher – Lipsin’ Ting

Jay Sean became the most successful UK RnB artist last week when his single ‘Down‘ became #1 in the US Billboard Charts. Down has sold over 1.5million records in the states and will be released in the UK next week. Good look for him. His next single features Lil Jon and Sean Paul. Tbh, didn’t really feel it on first listen. But then again, I didn’t like Down that much on first listen. Look how successful that was ..

Also, have I mentioned before that we’re on Twitter?

So Ed Banger’s DJ Mehdi has a number of unreleased remixes he posts on his blog every now and again and the latest he’s given us is his take on Crookers’ ‘Embrace The Martian’. The original is pretty epic obviously and I quite like what he’s done with this, given it a heavy bassline whilst adding in some other ‘spacey’ touches to make up for the ones removed. Not bad, original is still hard to beat though. Cheers to LAFriendly again for this one.

Crookers feat. Kid Cudi – Embrace The Martian (DJ Mehdi Remix)

Secondly new Deadmau5! Its called ‘Moar Ghosts N Whatever’ and uses the greatness of ‘Ghosts N Stuff ‘ mixed in with what I think is a new melody. If you thought G’N'S bridged the gap between his melodic and experimental side then think again, this is brilliant! Pretty fast-paced but absolutely epic, love it.

Thirdly another new MJ tribute. Its by Cookin Soul and mashes up Kid Cudi’s ‘Day N Nite’ with ‘Beat It’. I don’t think its actually too good, I think the echoes of D’N'N should be removed amongst other things, but the guitar on Beat It is so good it goes with almost anything half decent. This is a good listen, definitely, and a nice take on the classic.

Michael Jackson – Beat It (Cookin Soul Mashup feat. Kid Cudi)

And lastly, some of you may remember DatsiK from one of AK’s posts a while ago. Anyhow, he’s got a new song with Excision called ‘Calypso’, apparently a collaboration between a load of labelmates or something. Its really good though, have a listen.

First up today are a couple of MJ remixes. I was expecting a few of these to be honest however I was expecting them from hip-hop/RnB artists, not from electro DJs. First remix is, from what I can gather, a VIKING remix of Michael Jackson’s “You Are Not Alone.” There’s loads of other names all over the track as well but it was VIKING which I was particularly interested in. It’s quite a good remix, the looping synth and nice bg synth work very well and make for a good song. The other tribute is by Don Diablo and is a neat remix of Michael Jackson’s “Remember The Time.” It’s quite nice, nothing ground breaking but some nice simple synths and drum beat. Simple is normally best.

Michael Jackson & Bag Raiders – You Are Not Alone (VIKING & CJ Milli Shooting Stars Tribute)

Don Diablo – Song for MJ (Remember The Time)

Next remix is from Chase & Status and is of Jay-Z’s “Death Of Autotune.” To be honest I found the original ok, the chorus was pretty bad and the beat wasn’t brilliant. This remix is quite good though, however I think it just lacks that big production which would have arguably made it better than the original. The result is a nice base, however I just feel it needs something on top of it. I much prefer the remix of Nneka I posted the other day.

Jay-Z – D.O.A (Chase & Status Remix)

Last song is one we got sent from an artist called “Lushlife,” and it’s very good. It reminds me of the song Ish sent over a few week back, I wasn’t expecting much when I opened the e-mail but the song in it was actually really good. This is no different. The song samples indie group “Ariel Pink” (I don’t know what song) and features Elzhi from hip-hop group Slum Village. The result is a great hip-hop song with some good rapping and production. I really like this guy.
