Pendulum’s new track, ‘Watercolour’, received it’s first airplay on Zane Lowe’s show last night, after a month or so of first being played during a set at Matter. I really like this personally. It’s exactly what you’d expect from Pendulum to be honest, the loud bass (which I’m sure will be bigger on the final track), the classic synths and the almost shouted and processed vocals. It’s nothing especially fresh but it’s as good as always, and they remain one of the few bringing Drum n Bass to the masses. Check out a preview below.

I really don’t get all this fuss about the Superbowl, although not being American I guess I wouldn’t. I mean it’s two teams, the qualification process for the final I have no idea, playing a version of rugby with more forward passes and padding. Also another reason I don’t like it is the sheer commercial aspect of the event. There’s advertising absolutely everywhere, they have long breaks to show ads and they get some big name musicians to fill the boring parts to stop people changing channel. Also of course food and drink sales must be huge, with games taking what 3 1/2 to 4 hours. The only sport I’d watch for that long is 20:20 cricket but I’m sure many will say that’s boring.

Moving on, not really a song but a tune I can’t wait to hear in full. German producer Kabuki has had his DnB track ‘Just Hold On’ remixed by Serum and the result is sounding brilliant. It’s rare I post a DnB song in its own post, especially one where only a snippet has leaked. But I think this has potential. Its very enjoyable to listen to and with vocals from Jenna G, who has featured on her fair share of DnB songs, hopefully it’ll do well. Check it out below.

I’ve been really digging this track lately. Admittedly I’m late on it, I just didn’t think it’d be my sort of thing. It is a good move into the mainstream for Tinie Tempah though who seems to be aiming to follow in Tinchy Stryder’s footsteps this year, and could well succeed based on this. I was walking to college listening to the track and thought there had to be a dubstep remix made for this, it sounds like it was made to have a dubstep remix produced. Anyway I’ve just remembered this and looked around but there’s no dubstep remix yet however, a DnB remix by DC Breaks has been made, and it’s hard. Big bassline throughout and the vocals and synths just work with it. I don’t think a bad DnB remix could be produced for this. Check it out below and watch for the single when it drops.

This will apparently be on the single, so make sure to check that out for better quality. Also check out the original if you haven’t already.

Drum N Bass has enjoyed a highly successful few years, with acts such as Chase & Status, Sub Focus and High Contrast bringing the genre to the attention of many. The rising popularity has also led to an ever changing list of DJs on the scene; however one DJ who looks set to cement his place in the drum n bass world for the foreseeable future is Newcastle’s own Adam Tindall, better known as Original Sin.

Original Sin released his debut album, Grow Your Wings, on 7th December however it is not the result of a desire for a quick buck. The album has been compiled over nearly a decade over which he has mastered the production of drum n bass and incorporated diversity into his work, ensuring every track has a unique feel to it. Receiving early praise from many radio DJs, the album was something I couldn’t wait to listen to.

The album opens with the frantic Therapy, which is probably one of the rawest tracks on the album. The track has a lot of energy which seems to be released throughout the track as it alternates between the calm, melodic synths to the frantic, energetic drumming with screeching synths throughout. It’s a loud, attention seeking opening to the album. The next track, Kiss, is definitely more melodic. The smooth keys combined with some relaxed vocals and the frantic drumming all complements each other brilliantly. The fast synths that come in at the end also add a nice touch to the track.

Most of the tracks on the album could be grouped into the ‘heavy, frantic’ group or classed in the ‘melodic’ tracks. R Bass is more in the style of the opener with the loud bass and some background synths making for a real heavy beat. The loud bassline and changing of style throughout make for a massive club track. Pimp Don’t Limp was another hard track which had so many different parts to it. There’s quite a long intro on this one until the drumming comes in, which is filled by a much slower drum beat and some simple synths and voices. When this passes though with some sound effects, the track becomes emphatic and bass driven with some of the earlier voices and synths put in for good measure.

Another of my favourite tracks on the album was undoubtedly Without You. It was frantic, energetic, loud, and had so many elements to it – the track was just great to listen to. Again there’s a short intro with some nice synths and some vocals however it’s after this when the track comes to life. Especially around half way through when everything is going together the track just sounds awesome.

However I also enjoyed many of the more melodic tracks on the album. Track 6 was probably one of my favourite on the album, called Your Love. Not as busy as many of the other tracks, but I really love everything about it. The synths, the guitar, the drum and the bass all work brilliantly together. It’s a bit more generic and vocal driven than the other tracks on the album but it works so well I don’t really mind, in all honesty I do typically enjoy vocal tracks more.

Promise Me was the second bonus track, and one in the ‘melodic’ category, which featured some soul vocals over the top of the drum n bass instrumental. If Original Sin does try to break into the mainstream then this track would be a good attempt if the vocals were just boosted a bit. It’s a very tame track but again I found it really enjoyable. It made a nice change listening to a more vocal track.

The last bonus track though, 3000 Miles, is definitely worthy of ending the album. The vocoded vocals work really well with the instrumental as the song builds up in the early stages. The frantic drums and bassline are then introduced and the track begins to come to life. I love the keyboard which is used in the stages where there are no vocals and that probably makes this one of my favourite instrumentals on the album.

I’m trying to think of some negatives about the album but I really am struggling. This only thing I think the album lacks is one lead single which would just be outstanding. The album does maintain a very high quality throughout though which, in some ways does make up for the lack of this track. The album has many positives though. It’s very diverse, the tracks rarely become repetitive, and the constant change of pace makes for an all round impressive album.

Highlights: Your Love, Without You, 3000 Miles

It’s one of those days where I have nothing to post. Some new Pitbull doesn’t overly interest me if I’m honest and neither does a Soulja Boy, Gucci Mane & Arab collaboration. Other than that I’ve just been listening to The Fame Monster and Jason DeRulo’s new song. Anyway there are a couple of bits I’ll post.

Firstly Starving DJs have made a remix of Lady GaGa’s Telephone which I enjoyed. The song is so much better than Beyoncé’s Video Phone it’s unreal, I really hope it does get released soon. The remix is good though, has a good instrumental especially towards the end and the harder electro beat works well with everything. A bit bassier as well and a good take on the song for sure. Check it out below.

Lady GaGa feat. Beyoncé – Telephone (Starving DJs Mix)

The Fame Monster is out now and is exceptionally good. Buy it here.

There’s also a new Doorly remix, this time of Wiley’s future smash Take That. It premièred on Mistajam’s show on Wednesday I believe and a decent quality rip has yet to surface. It still sounds like it’ll be a really good remix when it drops , it’s loud, it’s dubstep, it’s everything you’d expect. Check the radio rip out below.

Wiley – Take That (Doorly Remix) [Radio Rip]

Take That is out December 28th, and will be big. I can’t find any pre-order links but check it out.

Last thing today is Pendulum’s remix of Plan B’s upcoming single Stay Too Long. It’s rare that Pendulum do remixes so I had to check this one out and I really enjoyed it. It’s quite long and I really like the trademark Pendulum instrumental which is featured throughout. After the instrumental vocals Plan B doesn’t feature much but it’s still a good remix, as you’d expect. Good synths and beat. I would say check it out below however it’s only available on their MySpace currently. It’s due out in Jan 2010 so be sure to look for it then. I think Zane Lowe will be playing it regularly.

Just got a couple of drum n bas remixes to post, both of which are really good though so I’ll put them up.The first is a remix of Dizzee Rascal’s Dirtee Cash by dnb act of the moment Sub Focus. Yes the original was mainstream but I still quite liked the song, was catchy and radio friendly and all. Anyway this remix is great, I really do love it. The way the song is slowed down then just explodes is great. Some great synths in there as well and just much harder than the original. Check it out below.

Dizzee Rascal – Dirtee Cash (Sub Focus Remix)

Dirtee Cash (including Sub Focus remix) is out now! Buy it here.

The next song is a remix of Tiësto’s Kaleidoscope by another big dnb producer, High Contrast. The remix has the same drums that HIgh Contrast uses so effectively on his remixes and it’s always the reason I love the remix, coupled with the fast tempo. There isn’t too much of the original instrumental which leaves an effect apart from a small sort of break in the middle where it comes to prominence. I really like the instrumental on the result, as always, is a great dnb remix. Check it out below. Saw it @ DiscoBelle – check it out.

Kaleidoscope is out now! And contains the great I Will Be Here featuring Sneaky Sound System. Buy it here.

The Croydon-born dubstep legend Skream has been dropping a few remixes lately, but the one that i just cant get out of my head is the remix to Chromeo’s Night By Night. The original itself is quite a chilled out track and to be fair the dubstep remix doesn’t really deviate from the original path, but thats not necessarily a bad thing. The bass drops are frequent, the chorus is catchy as fuck and on top of that Skream dropped it in 320, it really doesn’t get much better…

Chromeo – Night By Night (Skream Remix)

By now you might have gathered I love Nero. They’ve been dropping some of the hottest remixes of ’09 and it seems there’s no stopping them. Hypercaine, is the new single from drum & bass artist DJ Fresh and was released towards the end of September. The Nero remix is on the b-side and it generally has a very upbeat feel to it. The track actually flips from the high tempo vocals to the slow-ish yet heavy dubstep bass on the drop. It’s definitely worth a listen or two.

DJ Fresh – Hypercaine (Nero Dubstep Remix)

To finish off with i’ve got some new Wale straight from his twitter. He’s been dropping a few tracks from his twitter recently and this one has to be my favourite. Entitled Fly Away, it’s nowhere near his best, the quality isn’t exactly brilliant but his flow is still tight and the lyrics are on form as usual. I don’t mind Wale releasing all these ‘extra’ tracks but like most people i’m just itching to get my hands on ‘Attention Deficit’ so i can really know what he’s capable of making. So far so good though…

Wale – Fly Away

Attention Deficit is out November 3rd. Pre-Order it Here.

First up today something I never realised – Michael Jackson and Eddie Murphy released a song together!? As strange as it sounds, “Whatzupwitu” was released in 1993 as a collaboration between the two and featured on Eddie Murphy’s album, “Love’s Alright”. The single and album inevitably flopped, which is probably why I’ve never heard of the song. Still it shows Michael did have some low points in his career musically.

Anyway the first song today is also old, but this time only a year or so. It’s by a remix of a song by a group who were called Inhaler – but are now called The Bleach Works. Still not ringing any bells? I’m not surprised. To be honest, I’d never heard of them until a few days ago – when I noticed a remix of one of their songs “Something About You” – by J Majik & Wickaman – the same duo responsible for the brilliant DnB remix of Deadmau5′s “I Remember.” The only thing I can say about this song is that it is absolutely brilliant. I’ll post a YouTube link to the original as well. You MUST check the remix out below.

Inhaler feat. Christian Burns – Something About You

Inhaler feat. Christian Burns – Something About You (J Majik & Wickaman Remix)

Before I move on, I’ve been loving Tiesto’s track with Nelly Furtado recently so I recommend you check that out. I would link to it on YouTube but can’t find it anywhere. Anyway next up is the Sub Focus remix of Deadmau5′s “Ghosts n Stuff.” I haven’t got the original yet honestly – I’m still waiting for the album to come out next week. The single, with Rob Swire, is seriously good though, I always love it when I hear it on Radio 1. I’m also a really big fan of Sub Focus, and this remix is just what you’d expect from them. The main addition comes with some strings which I like, the whole remix is just good. The single came out a while back but if you don’t have a copy and don’t want the album, you should definitely get one.

Deadmau5 feat Rob Swire – Ghosts N Stuff (Sub Focus Remix)

Ghosts N Stuff is out now! Buy it here.

Last thing is a new performance from The Asteroids Galaxy Tour of singles “The Golden Age” & “Satellite” off of their debut album. We mentioned them a month or so ago now and everyone here is a fan of them. Check the performance out below.

Haven’t posted in a while but don’t have too much news. Jay-Z, Rihanna and Kanye performed “Run This Town” on Jay Leno’s new show the other day and I quite enjoyed that. Although for some reason my internet has been so slow recently it took about 20 minutes to buffer. Anyhow, check it out here. Only other news is that Taio Cruz – Break Your Heart was released on Sunday. I got my copy then however it’s sold well over the week and has held the #1 spot on iTunes constantly since it’s release. You can buy that song here.

First up today Chubby Fingers have got a new dubstep remix out, this time of Bloc Party’s (arguably) best song, Banquet. I love the original but this is a good dubstep track. The decision to omit any vocals was a good one as the rhythm guitar in the background fits in well with the dubstep beats that Chubby Fingers have used. Check it out below.

Bloc Party – Banquet (Chubby Fingers Dubstep Boot)

There’s also some folk rock in the shape of Sandbox Astronomy. I like their sound – Personally I quite like the whole folk/acoustic rock sound and this fits the bill pretty well. Lost Languages, the first track on the album, was one I particularly enjoyed with its acoustic guitar throughout and some nice percussion and vocals, although personally I think the group would sound better if it was just the male vocals. It’s still good, I recommend you listen to them. Their album is free so if you like them you can get their album at the link below, free of charge.

Sandbox Astronomy at Bandcamp

There’s also a new Drake feature, apparently on Kevin Cossom’s track “I Get Paper.” Normally I’d leave Blik to post something like this however I’ve really warmed to Drake recently so I thought I’d give this a go. The song is not too bad actually – Some nice rapping from Drake although to be honest I think he could have made the song his own easily. I’ll also post up a tagless version of High Contrast’s remix of Kanye’s Flashing Lights. I’ve been looking for a tagless version of this for ages (nearly a year) and finally found one the other day. Has a tag for High Contrast’s first album I believe towards the beginning – Great remix though.
