David Guetta has been getting tonnes of hype for his new album, in the mainstream sense anyway. Considering ‘Pop Life’ etc all did well and had successful singles its odd that only now he’s getting so much attention. When ‘Love Takes Over’ got a no. 1, his more recent leak ‘Sexy Bitch’ has also got a fair amount of hype and I’m sure his newest, ‘I Wanna Go Crazy’ with Will.I.Am, will too (CDQ below). I’m still not Guetta’s biggest fan at all, especially now I’ve seen the full tracklist for One Love. Seems he’s another to go down the get-loads-of-guests-and-do-well route, unfortunately, so its just gonna be a big mainstream pop sesh I think. Its not that the songs are that bad (well, to an extent for some), just too poppy. Like most people though I am looking forward to the Cudi collaboration. Having said all this, the album does have one MAJOR saving grace, and that is the collaboration with Ingrosso, Dirty South & Julie McKnight on how soon is now which I posted here as a rip. Full version below, grown on me a lot, seriously good track..

Been a while since DatA‘s very tasty album was released and subsequently any new DatA. New remix of La Roux’s ‘I’m Not Your Toy’ though, very Justice-y, but far better than their recent remixes (U2, Kravitz etc). Well worth a listen.

La Roux – I’m Not Your Toy (DatA Remix)

Flo Rida’s latest abomination, ‘Jump’, with Nelly Furtado (who, I must admit, makes the chorus pretty cool) is the latest to get the remix treatment from the Designer Drugs boys. Solid electro remix, makes the song a lot more bearable, trademark DD. Via El3ctronight.

Flo Rida feat. Nelly Furtado – Jump (Designer Drugs Remix)

And lastly a new VIKING remix of The Sounds’ ‘No One Sleeps When I’m Awake’. Typical amazing electro from Viking (he really is too good) and the original vocals are pretty grand too. I must get into The Sounds actually, loved Rex The Dog’s remix of ‘Tony The Beat’ so reckon I’d like them anyway..

The Sounds – No One Sleeps When I’m Awake (VIKING Remix)

Oh, and Zane Low’s current hottest record in the world is Filthy Dukes – Tupac Club Rock. I though huh, that’s pretty old.. turns out its a new version featuring Wiley (Plastic Little are still in it though which is good). Will get the mp3 to you asap, in the meantime have a listen on Zane’s site.. click.

Well Zane Low and Annie Mac played some brand new Bloc Party yesterday. The reception so far is mixed, some saying its a ‘failed club track’, but I wouldn’t put it that way personally. What you have to accept with Bloc is that they’re constantly moving forward style-wise (which is why some people think bar Silent Alarm they’re poor, but its all down to taste at the end of the day), and so this does seem to have a more advanced ‘Intimacy’ feel. The piano is decent as is the rest of the instrumental, but I’m unsure over Kele’s vocals. Anyhow, it does have some trademark Blo parts to it so have a listen..

Bloc Party – One More Chance

Secondly, the CLASSIC club track, ‘You’re Not Alone’, by Olive, has been remixed by the rather good Dave Darell. Except the actual track is labelled as being by Liz Kay (the vocalist), not Olive, so tag it how you want. I probably prefer Dave’s remix of ‘Suddenly’ but this is still good, another excellent build-up & drop, so well worth a liste. I see him as a non-crap/commercial Klaas really, they both have a similar style but I prefer Darell.

Liz Kay – You’re Not Alone 2009 (Dave Darell Remix)

Thirdly a new Designer Drugs remix, of The Secret Handshake‘s ‘Make Up Your Mind’. The mix of the somewhat corny American vocals with DD’s trademark style is pretty good, one of my favourite remixes of theirs in a while.

The Secret Handshake – Make Up Your Mind (Designer Drugs Remix)

And lastly a new remix by Afrikan Boy of K’naan‘s ‘T.I.A.’. I’ll listen to anything involving the latter so I quite like this, Afrikan Boy has 2 verses in it, both are decent.

K’naan – T.I.A. (Remix feat. Afrikan Boy)

As I said yesterday a new Louis La Roche track was played on Friday by Jaymo and Andy George. To me it sounds like a more different style, more fast-paced and experimental, but it still contains that French disco sound. Its pretty good on the whole, and it’ll feature on his newest EP (also entitled ‘Supersoaker’), which I believe is out soon. Only a radio rip, but anyway. Will update you with more news when we get it.

Louis La Roche – Supersoaker Removed by request, check Louis’ Myspace Blog for a preview!

Also played by Jaymo and Andy was a track called ‘Feel’ by unsigned artist Tom Staar. He only has 250 or so views on his Myspace, but hopefully with more support from Radio 1 he’ll become more well-known. The track is absolutely unreal and is in my top 5 of 2009, the crunchy electro sounds and incredible synths mixed with the indie-like vocals sound an amazing match that I haven’t heard anything as good as before. You NEED this track! Only downside is its too short, but hopefully we’ll see more of him soon. Cheers to Geo for providing the mp3.

Tom Staar – Feel ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Thirdly a new Designer Drugs remix. Its of Spencer Product’s ‘We Bite’ and has some nice vocals alongside the typical DD sound.

Spencer Product – We Bite (Designer Drugs NY Nite Mix)

And lastly I’ve been waiting for the full version of the amazing Classixx‘s ‘I’ll Get You’ but as of yet I haven’t, so here’s the Royal Rumble Edit instead. Its really old and has probably been blogged a thousand times before but in case you missed it you can download it now, its also amazing! Again in my top 10 of the year so far.

Classixx – I’ll Get You feat. Jeppe (Royal Rumble Edit)

What’s better than a bit of Dubstep at 3:00 in the morning?… Well, i suppose you could say sleeping but i know i’d rather go with the first option…

Anyway, onto the music i’ve got a Nero remix first up of a track called Dressed To Digress originally by Boy Crisis. There have been a few Nero remixes knocking about over the past couple of weeks, my favourite probably being the Blinded By Lights remix that my boy Eko posted here. I actually like the track as a whole, the beat is hard and the lyrics, although weird are quite catchy and fit rather nicely. Link below…

Boy Crisis – Dressed To Digress (Nero Remix) listen via zShare

Next it’s a track with a very acquired taste by the Canadian Dubstep artist DatsiK. Entitled Apples, it’s quite a slow yet energetic beat with some heavy bass. There’s something quite ‘friendly’ about this track, it’s not got that dark and dirty sound that most dustep tracks have nowadays. Having said that, it’s probably just because of title and the fact that i’m tired that i think it’s strange…

DatsiK – Apples listen via zShare

Moving onto a bit of Electro now with a Nadastrom remix of a track called Back Up In This that was originally by Designer Drugs. It’s quite repititive at the start (as you would expect) and then begins to fade into a louder and actually catchy beat which you might think is a bit annoying at first.. don’t worry it’ll grow on you. I’ve not listened to much Nadastrom apart from the ‘Pussy EP’, i wouldn’t say this remix is as good as that but its definitely worth a listen…

Designer Drugs – Back Up In This (Nadastrom Remix) listen via zShare

Next its another remix, this time by Lil Silva of Daniel Merriweather’s track Red. Even though i think the original is by far the better out of the two, the track’s still not that bad. I’ve actually never heard of Lil Silva before, i only heard the track on Mistajam’s show today but judging by this track you’ll probably hear a lot more of his work in the near future. Below are links to both the remix and the original..

Daniel Merriweather – Red (Lil Silva Remix) listen via zShare

Finally it’s a track which i’ve been trying to get hold of for aaaages! Everything by P-Money is definitely one of the best songs i’ve heard in ’09. Released originally in New Zealand, it features Vince Harder and spent 3 weeks at number 1 in their main chart and a subsequent 5 months in the top 30. The record is set to drop in the UK this summer and with a beat like that it’s bound to be a hit…

P-Money – Everything (feat. Vince Harder) listen via zShare

Well recently a remix by the very good VIKING hit the blog world and its one of his best yet. The remix itself is of a song called Inhale, Exhale, by a rapper called OnCue. I really liked what I heard so looked around for more of his stuff and found his mixtape from last November called ‘Elevator Muzik’. The mixtape is yet another Mick Boogie & Terry Urban production so if you like their past stuff (‘Viva La Hova’, etc), then you’ll probably like this.

Regarding OnCue himself, from the VIKING remix I personally thought he sounded a lot like Flo Rida, which is unfortunate – don’t let it put you off. But up0n closer listening he seems to also resemble Jay-Z a bit also, as well as a bit of T.I.. He’s white though, which is funny considering the volume and strength of his voice, if you were to consider him to Eminem and Asher Roth anyway. He’s still only in college apparently so with any luck he might end up being quite big.

As for the mixtape itself, it has a number of guest spots, the most well-known of which is probably MIMS, who features on a track called Died In Your Arms. Its not the best on the mixtape, its kind of weird in fact – OnCue raps for the first half, then you get a nice female vocaling sample, before switching over to MIMS. That sampling bit is the best part of the song I reckon.

My personal favourite from the record is the (proper) opener, suitably entitled Birth. Its some really good synth-rap I feel, vaguely reminiscent to that of Luck-One & Dekk‘s work, whose I absolutely love. The original Inhale, Exhale is also impressive, I’d listen to that prior to the remix then judge however.

Also, thanks to Jonny for telling me about this new Designer Drugs remix. Nadastrom have done a remix of the same song, I prefer the DD remix though (even though the latter’s chorus ‘Our House’ bit (I think that’s what it says) sounds like it should be on PES!). Both are sick though.

Most of you will know Eric Prydz (aka Pryda, Cirez D, Moo, etc) from his 2004 hit Call On Me or last’s summer’s brilliant Pjanoo. To be fair to him he does make decent house music likeable to the masses which you have to give him credit for, but some of his best work is probably as Pryda.

Anyhow, thanks to El3ctronight yesterday I picked up what was called ‘Unknown Track 2009′. Its a brilliant track, dunno what its real name is just yet but we’ll find out soon enough I hope. But I was checking his lastfm page and saw a few people were raving about tracks called Lift, Melo and Reeperbahn. So I got these and WOW are they amazing.

Lift seems to be a remake of Pjanoo, or at least remix/sampling, as the main chorus definitely resembles it. Its more of a progressive house track though, less fast-paced, really good overall though. Reeperbahn starts ok, but when it gets to around 3 minutes, it gets fantastic – again the progressive element comes in, but this time accompanied by some African voice samples which really add to the track. And finally Melo, oh my. This track is so unbelievable, its exactly what prog house should be – it sounds very Deadmau5-eque and generally amazing. Melodic, yet modern and electronic, it really is unreal! I think its overtaken my Little Secrets as my track of the year (or April anyway, my memory’s failing me about the other months!). Can’t stress enough how much you need Melo at least.

Also have a listen to Diamond Life (feat. Julie McKnight) (Muranyi Mix), nice vocals and house. And the Designer Drugs remix of N.A.S.A.‘s Strange Enough, one of my fave tracks of theirs, but I think the original is better.

So much good music has been circulating recently! I could split this post into about 4 (I might make do with 3 though) but seriously I’d advise you to download all these tracks! This first post has a cute theme to it, if you want to call it that.

Alright firstly I’m linking you to some of Lady GaGa‘s earlier work. I can’t say I like her overly since she became mainstream (yeah..) but this EP, called ‘Red & Blue’, is from when she went under the name of Stefani. its not pop/electro, its more pop/rock and I have to say her voice suits it perfectly. Red & Blue and No Floods are both very likable tracks if you’re into that sort of stuff, and maybe even if you’re not.

Lady GaGa – Red and Blue EP Download on Zshare

Next up we have a track which is pretty popular round the scene at the moment, and that is Designer Drugs‘ remix of Annie‘s new track Anthonio. Annie also is pretty lovable, and Designer Drugs always makes brilliant remixes.

Annie – Anthonio (Designer Drugs Remix) Listen on Sharebee

Annie – I Know Ur Girlfriend Hates Me Listen on Zippyshare

Next up we have a Lykke Li remix which has proven to be very popular of late. Its done by Villains and manages to retain her brilliant voice well whilst adding in a nice electro feel to it.

Lykke Li – Little Bit (Villains Remix) Listen on Zippyshare

And finally we have my favourite track of the post. Its Bulletproof by La Roux, which i think some people have had for a while but I’ve only just got. I’m sort of undecided over La Roux, Ellie’s voice annoys me after a while and even though they’re very likable I don’t think they’re that amazing. Regardless though this track is BRILLIANT, its perfect pop and her voice I feel sounds so much better in this than Quicksand & In For The Kill etc.

La Roux – Bulletproof ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Listen on Zippyshare

Up next: round-up of last night’s radio tracks and various remixes..

After that: BIG track! + others

Quite the combination, no? Anyhow, I was doing my usual blog-check when I came across a new Designer Drugs remix. Its of Enjoy The Silence, a cover by girl-band Red Blooded Women. I hadn’t heard of them before but the track got my attention; its a usual sparky, fast-paced remix by the guys of Designer Drugs, one of their better ones I feel, but the original vocals also captured my attention. So, I decided to look for more of their stuff and I’m really glad I did. You’d think a trio of girls who make pop music are gonna be just another generic, mainstream girl-group but these 3 seem different – their Myspace descriptions lists them as being ‘more likely to listen to Kraftwerk than Atomic Kitten, influenced by everything from Abba and The Carpenters through to Daft Punk and Depeche Mode.’ Sounds good, no? And they really are.

The first track I listened to of theirs is called Colour Me Dirty and you’ll probably recognise the backing beat. The vocals are immense too and its one of my favourite songs I’ve found this year already (it was released last summer I do believe), its really catchy and generally a great electropop song. Also very good is Synthesiser (no relation to Simian Mobile Disco‘s new track), which has nice guitar, good use of autotune (not too noticeable), and a nice melodic part from Candy too; it sounds like a more electro-y Girls Aloud track. And finally, what also caught me eye was another track called Colour Me Pjanoo. Obviously its not very often a track called Pjanoo comes about so I guessed it was gonna be a remix of Eric Prydz’s hit, which it is of sorts, though its more of a mash-up (Youtube has it as Eric Prydz vs Red Blooded Women). Its not as good as either original but its nice to listen to and the 2 go pretty well on the whole.

So, enjoy the tracks below, buy their EP, look out for their upcoming album, and watch them get big!

As most of you will know, the BBC recently carried out their Sound of 2009 poll in which 15 up-and-coming acts made the longlist, including the likes of KiD CuDi, Passion Pit, VV Brown, and Lady GaGa. None of these acts made the top 5 though, which instead went as follows: La Roux, Empire of the Sun, Florence and the Machine, White Lies, and in first place, the brilliant Little Boots, aka Victoria Hesketh.

Now, Little Boots has been around on the music scene for a while, but it was only really in early 2008 that she started to get some press, on blogs at least. Her most well-known track, Stuck on Repeat, is a fantastic mix of pop, indie, and disco mixed into one. My personal favourite of hers is the lesser-known Every Little Earthquake, as well as the DESIGNER DRUGS ’80′s Coke Jam’ remix of Meddle. Also worth a mention is Fake Blood‘s take on Stuck on Repeat.

While I’m here I thought I may as well also give a quick mention to La Roux, who is somewhat similar to Little Boots (which I guess explains why they’re mentioned together so often). Maybe not to everyone’s taste, but she has a great synthpop feel and a delightful voice, and having been signed to Kitsuné, I expect her to enjoy a lot of success in 2009. Quicksand is included below.
