I should really be revising right now but I seriously can’t be arsed so I thought I might as well hook you guys up with a quick post.

First up it’s Kano‘s new track, More Than One Way. Although it has been knocking about for a week or two since its debut on Mistajam’s show not so long ago, the CDQ has only just dropped. I’ve already said it once but i’ll say it again, this is the Kano we need more of. Yeah, one or two grime tracks would be good on his forthcoming album but lets hope the majority of the album holds par with this. Check out the video here.

Kano – More Than One Way

Next up its the new-ish Sub Focus remix to Basement Jaxx‘s – Twerk. Featuring Yo! Majesty, the original was one my favourites on the ‘Scars’ album. This version, as you would imagine is one for all you drum & bass heads out there. With more bass, a faster tempo and a few drops here and there Sub Focus proves he’s worth all the praise he’s been getting in ’09.

Staying with Sub Focus, check out the video to his new track Could This Be Real here.

Basement Jaxx – Twerk (feat. Yo! Majesty) (Sub Focus Remix)

To finish off with it’s a track which I completely forgot about and was actually released earlier this year in February. I was going through my collection trying to put together some sort of list of the best tracks of the year and I stumbled across this gem. For You is a track by the highly talented young producer Floating Points. Although short, its a brilliant season of slyly cut samples dexterously mashed together with some downtempo head-bopping beats. The list might have failed but this track’s been on repeat for 2 days straight…

Buy Floating Points – For You / Radiality from Boomkat.

Have a good Christmas & New Year break.

New Gaga. Her ‘new’ album; The Fame Monster was only meant to be a re-release but it seems Gaga isnt a fan of re-releases:

“I think re-releases are unfair… It’s artists sneaking singles onto an already finished piece of work in an effort to keep the album afloat. Originally [my label] only wanted me to put out three songs and now it’s much more than that. It’s a new album’s worth of material.”

Never really liked Gaga, shes very good commercially though. Can see this one doing alright too. Props to P&P.

Lady Gaga – Dance in the Dark

Something I’ve been meaning to post for a while now. Shakira is reportedly gonna score a top 5 hit with her latest effort ‘She Wolf’ when its digitially released. The potential follow up to that features the Moon Man: Kid Cudi himself. I’m feelin this, however it will only be a Bonus Track on the American release of the album. A good beat though. A decent Cudi verse. Could be a hit if released as a single.

Shakira – Do It Again (Feat. KiD CuDi)

Never been a fan of R&B myself. Obviously there are exceptions (J. Holiday – Bed for example) but something about listening to R&B for long periods of time just annoys me. This track is alright though. The ‘female’ of Young Money, Nicki Minaj, goes in on this. Her flow is on point. Lloyd and Holiday do their thing too. Lovin this, alot.

Lloyd – Take It Off (Feat. Nicki Minaj & J. Holiday)

Finally, a new Basement Jaxx video. I wasn’t feeling this album when it dropped. I just didnt really get into it. Very slowly though, I’m, starting to get into it. Here’s the visuals for ‘My Turn’

This year, I’ve really loved what Sub Focus have been putting out. Rock it was absolutely insane and their recent remix of Ghosts N Stuff was one that I enjoyed. Anyway, they’ve got a new remix and this time it’s of Basement Jaxx’s “Twerk” – and it’s a big song. It’s much more of a club track than their previous stuff, in most part down to the fast tempo of the song. If you like drum n bass you’ll probably be a big fan of this track. This one is a podcast rip which sounded slightly better than the Radio 1 rip in my opinion. It doesn’t feature many vocals at all which may put some people off, I like it though. Props to SKANKANDBASS for the rip.

Basement Jaxx – Twerk (Sub Focus Remix)

Twerk is out now. Get it here (Off the album Scars)

Also Mika has a new song out, and he always seems to get good remixes of his songs produced. The remix for We Are Golden was done by none other than Don Diablo, amongst others, and the remix for his new single Rain is produced by Benny Benassi. The remix is a couple of weeks old I think but with the single release still a month away, I think I can call it current. I really enjoyed it, was mainstream of course but was a good dance track and much better than the original, although Mika isn’t really to my taste so I would say that. You can check the remix out below in its full glory.

Mika – Rain (Benny Benassi Remix)

Rain is released 23rd November. Get the album version here.

Last song I’ll post today is off of Timbaland’s new album and is the lead single, Morning After Dark. The song features SoShy, who is signed to Timbaland’s label, and Nelly Furtado, who’s part in the song seems a little overshadowed by the other 2 artists. The autotune is annoying, the distorted chorus just doesn’t sound right and yet the song is actually catchy. It’s No The Way I Are though, which will take something special to emulate.

Timbaland – Morning After Dark (Feat. SoShy & Nelly Furtado)

Morning After Dark is released Monday in the US. Pre-Order here.

Still can’t wait for a good version of “Give It All U Got” by Lil Jon, Tinchy Stryder & Kee. Hopefully that comes in the next week. Have a nice weekend, I hope the rain stops.

Since their debut album, ‘Remedy’ dropped back in 1999, Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe other wise known as Basement Jaxx have come a long way. Their buoyant tendency to mix genre has enabled them to get away with pretty much everything. The Brixton-born duo have been instrumental in crossbreeding these innovative and jaunty surges of sound for over a decade now and with their upcoming fifth studio album ‘Scars’ set to be released this Monday in the UK, it seems the pair are set for some well deserved success.

As the title suggests the general impression of the album is slightly darker than its predecessors. There aren’t many moments in the album which you could identify as cautiously light-hearted. Even the lead single Raindrops seems to have a quirky feel to its summer-time edge. Whilst other tracks such as Feelings Gone, the second single off the album and My Turn seem to portray a different, more mellow type of message to the listener.

The album ranges from the psychedelic sounds of Santigold in Saga, to the soul-filled end-of-summer jam from Sam Sparro in Feelings Gone, to the peculiar hip-hop fueled sounds of Yo! Majesty in Twerk and only God knows how they manage to include the unorthodox sexual simulations of Yoko Ono in Day of The Sunflowers – We March On.. This epic voyage of varied sounds seem to be an advantage for ‘Scars’ as the number of artists that feature on it seem to ensure that every track is unique. The album also features such mainstream artists like Kelis and Chipmunk whilst promoting some underground talent with the likes of Eli “Paperboy” Reed, Lightspeed Champion and Amp Fiddler also featuring.

Basement Jaxx - Scars (feat. Kelis, Meleka & Chipmunk)

Basement Jaxx – Raindrops

Video – Basement Jaxx – Feelings Gone (feat. Sam Sparro)

All in all, I like the album. It’s refreshing and at times astonishing, the blend of different sounds is incredible. The opening track entitled Scars is probably my favourite; however, there are others such as My Turn, Twerk and A Possibilty which although sound completely different are up there with the Jaxx best. The only real problem i have with the album is the ending, it really does drag on a bit. I’m guessing the idea was to finish off the album in a chilled-out fashion but the result is a disappointment unfortunately. The lyrics in D.I.S.tractionz aren’t exactly amazing and although Gimme Somethin True isn’t as bad, it still doesn’t hold par with the rest of the album. Having said that, i still think the album’s a hit. There are a number of songs on the album that could be released as singles and rank high in the charts and with Raindrops already proving a success lets hope the rest of the album can follow suit.

Basement Jaxx – ‘Scars’ is out September 21st. Pre-Order on Amazon UK or Amazon Us – download on 7Digital.

Now I know Jack Beats are highly renowned on ‘the scene’ but I’ve never really listened to them too much in depth. I’ve got a number of their tracks/remixes and they’re all pretty good, but the latest named ‘UFO’ dominates the others imo. The bassline is just mental but I actually reckon the song’s best part is the alien-sounding build up.. fantastic track either way, gonna be huge!

Rusko‘s ’Cockney Thug’ is often seen as one of the pinnacle tracks of the dubstep genre, and has accordingly just got a re-release with a brand new Caspa remix of the track, which I actually prefer. Have a listen.

A-Track & Armand Van Helden have already gained a fair bit of praise under their alias of Duck Sauce and its easy to see why. Their mix of modern electronic and old school retro works incredibly well and their latest track, ‘The Motion’, is no different. Not as much vox as in the past 2 tracks, still great though.

Duck Sauce – The Motion

And finally the latest leak from Basement Jaxx‘s new album, Scars, is in fact trhe title track. Pretty good, prefer it to the Lightspeed Champion/Santigold releases anyway.

Frankmusik is going all out this summer it seems. His newest single, ‘Confusion Girl‘ (Holly V in the video, didn’t realise!) has already gained a fair bit of attention in the blog world as well as a tasty remix from Don Diablo, but I only found out yesterday about the ‘remix bundle’ for the new single, which features a certain Tinchy Stryder’s remix. The 2 seem to work together a lot being label-mates and all (Tinchy’s featured in a ‘Better Off As Two’ remix, as well as ‘Yes Or No’, a collaboration between the 2, AND if I remember correctly Frank will be on at least one track off Tinchy’s album) but I can’t say I like Tinchy.. at all. The original Confusion Girl is for me one of Frank’s weaker songs and Tinchy doesn’t really do much to change it. Nonetheless, Frank’s debut album ‘Complete Me’ is out in just under 2 weeks so make sure you all buy it. Edit: just seen the ad on TV for Confusion Girl with Tinchy.. interesting.

Frankmusik vs Tinchy Stryder – Confusion Girl (Shame Shame Shame)

Frankmusik vs Tinchy Stryder – Better Off As Two (Remix)

Now Tiesto is one of the men who could be credited for bringing the new breed of trance into the world although I’m sure others wouldn’t agree, mainly as he creates what I’ve often seen called ‘pop trance’. I’m not a massive fan of his though I do like quite a bit of his stuff, and his latest single ‘I Will be Here’ seems to be continuing with his route down commercial road. Its got vocals from Connie Mitchell (of Sneaky Sound System, also worked with Kanye on Graduation) and even though it is more of a commercial piece I must say the instrumental is pretty formidable, especially the IMMENSE breakdown at 3:37ish. The vocals are decent too, not really someone who I’d've expected to sing in a Tiesto song, but still, not bad. New album apparently out September.

Tiesto – I Will Be Here (feat. Sneaky Sound System)

And lastly I know a lot of people are looking forward to Basement Jaxx’s new album ‘Scars’, out September also, especially after the release of the magnificent ‘Raindrops’. The 3 featured artists on the album are all pretty big in their own right – Santigold, Lightspeed Champion & Sam Sparro have all received good levels of success. Anyhow, the 2 songs below have Santigold and LC featured on them respectively and to be honest I can’t say I like them much. ‘Saga’, with Santi, starts off in a ‘Creator’-like mould but for me just a worse version, and ‘She’s No Good’ with LC is again not really to my taste. Have a listen below anyway.

So I’m back, doesn’t seem like I missed too much music though some good stuff has been posted. Haven’t really got too much to post today and these have probably already been posted a fair amount on other blogs but anyway.

Firstly some new Doorly in the form of his dubstep remix of Basement Jaxx’s sick ‘Raindrops’. Having already got a fair amount of praise due to his ‘I’m Not Alone’, ‘Hooligans’ & ‘Bonkers’ remixes especially, it seems he’s continuing to get better as time goes on. This is probably my favourite piece of his yet, particularly as he manages to move the climax of the song without making it at all worse.

Basement Jaxx – Raindrops (Doorly’s Dubstep Remix)

Secondly the long-awaited Bloody Beetroots remix of The Proxy’s ‘Who Are You’ has finally surfaced. Its not in optimal quality but good nonetheless. The 2 mix really well, you can see how it’d be hard for them to change the ‘rawness’ of Proxy’s breakdowns but they manage to do it pretty well.

The Proxy – Who Are You (The Bloody Beetroots Remix)

Thirdly, a while ago Nik posted about an up-and-coming English singer named MPHO, in the same mould as Santogold, to an extent. Anyhow, her debut album unfortunately has already leaked, but instead I’m posting Armand Van Helden’s remix of the brilliant ‘Box N Locks’. The guitar from the original makes it what it is but this mix actually works fairly well; its different anyway. Almost dubsteppy with all the wobbles. Have a listen.

MPHO – Box N Locks (Armand Van Helden Remix)

And lastly, an oldie but a classic that I only just rediscovered. Its Paul Oakenfold‘s ‘Starry Eyed Surprise’ which has vocals from Shifty Shellshock (you all remember Crazy Town – Butterfly, no?!). Perfect summer chillout tune and a great mix of hip-hop and chillout.

Straight into the music today with a Benga remix of The Prodigy’s Warrior’s Dance. Even though it’s actually been around for a while it’s been quite difficult to get hold of a copy until now. The song itself has just been transformed into a dubstep anthem with all the classic elements of Benga remix added to the already notorious Prodigy beat. Definitely worth a listen…

The Prodigy – Warriors Dance (Benga Remix) listen via zShare

Next it’s the new Kickdrums single from their debut album ‘Just A Game’ – Out June 2nd. Entitled Things Work Out, It has that laid back, easy listening sound that makes them so good. Even though I reckon the first single Just A Game is slightly better than this, if their album can maintain this standard then we could be looking at one of the best albums of the summer. Link below…

The Kickdrums – Things Work Out listen via zShare

The Streets havent really released much worth noting since their glory days of Dry Your Eyes Mate and Fit But You Know It but it is reassuring to see them still going. Their new track, In The Middle, isn’t their best but it’s definitely a solid start to release a few more tracks to gain a bit of mainstream success in the charts. I’ve only got a radio rip of the track right now but the quality is still decent…

The Streets – In The Middle listen via zShare

The Final track is remix of Basement Jaxx’s Raindrops by Joker & Ginz. There have been a few remixes of Raindrops lately with the likes of Louis La Roche releasing his rework which my main man Geo posted here. This version has more of a dubstep vibe to it and is probably my favourite version of the track…

photo:n.d.k

I haven’t posted in days so I suppose it would be a good idea to post now. First up we had to take down Coin Operated Boy’s remix of “Hurricane” by Synth Girl because the label wern’t too happy about it (despite the fact I’d never had any interest in Synth Girl before the remix and had some interest after. It probably did them good). The remix will hopefully be released at the end of the year/early next year when I imagine Synth Girl start releasing tracks from their first album. If I remember I may do something on it. Also in news, Kasabian’s new album has been leaked and I may do a review of that sometime. I have fairly big hopes for it so hope that their sound hasn’t changed too much as I really liked their last album.

First track to day is a re-work by TTS favourite Louis La Roche. The re-work is of Basement Jaxx’s latest sing “Raindrops” and I really like the remix. For me it may even better the original with its simpler sound and less vocals making for a good instrumental for the second half of the song. Found the song via Mola Super Poco which is a tad NSFW but still a very good site.

Basement Jaxx – Raindrops (Louis La Roche Rework) Listen on zShare

Next is a remix by David Guetta, who recently released the brilliant “When Love Takes Over”. This track though is a remix of the Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feelin’.” I quite like the parts of this track with vocals as I feel the simple instrumental works well and the vocals are quite good. Also there’s no Fergie in the song which makes it that little bit better. This is my favourate song from the Black Eyed Peas’ forthcoming album though. Check the song out below. Sadly I can’t remember where I found it originally.

Black Eyed Peas – I Gotta Feelin’ (David Guetta Remix) Listen on zShare

Last track is a remix of La Roux’s “Bulletproof” by Midfield General. I’ve heard that La Roux have high hopes for this song but for me personally I prefer “In For The Kill,” which despite its annoyingly high vocals, was actually quite catchy and had a good beat and a good video – I mean the hair was just awesome. I like Midfield General a lot which is what made me check out this remix, and I wasn’t let down. It’s really good and I love the instrumental although the vocals go on a bit at times. Check it out below.
