I don’t know if any of you managed to catch that Gorillaz special NME TV did on Sunday morning (I think..) but it was basically just an hour of the bands hit tracks, back-to-back. No word of a lie, I just lay there on the sofa singing along for the entire duration of the programme. You know what the weird the thing is? If it was on again, i’d do it again. It just reminded me of how good they actually are when you’d think after ‘Plastic Beach‘ and their incredible Glastonbury performance, I wouldn’t even need reminding…

Anyway, I just noticed these links in our inbox and thought you guys would enjoy them. The band perform four tracks from ‘Plastic Beach’ and there’s also an exclusive Q&A about the making of the album. Enjoy…

Kuedo – Dream Sequence EP
Planet Mu

Although it may seem a bit strange, Kuedo is the name given to Jamie Vex’d's new project. Having been instrumental in the development of dubstep, it seems the veteran producer has moved on to a more electro-arcade breed of sound with the name of the EP symbolising his new ideology. The EP itself starts as it means to go on with a cavalcade of surging synths embodied in loopy yet jaunty drum beats which seem to resemble something of a hip-hop element with plenty of bass to pass around throughout. The two stand out tracks have to be; Starfox & Joy Construction, both bringing a sense of synth madness in their own unique way. Starfox has a more fast-paced edge to it whilst Joy Construction has a harder hitting maraud of synths fused effortlessly over a murky drum beat. I’d definitely recommend this one, it’s a refreshing approach which can appeal to a more generic audience.

Illum Sphere – Long Live The Plan
Fat City

Illum Sphere drops the first vinyl EP of a two part album – ‘Long Live The Plan’. Hailing from Manchester his flow is hard. The first impression that actually hits you when listening to the EP is the overall sense of urban-distortion. It just seems to be the music you’d listen to whilst walking through a rough neighbourhood in the early hours of the morning. The best track on the EP has to be Psycho, it portrays a very solemnly creepy image with the ever-present bass drops ensuring that your head keeps bopping. The EP seems to take you on a dark voyage from the terrifyingly malicious start to a more vivid finish with the final tracks entailing a more buoyant flourish of sounds. If part 2 can hold par with this, we’re in for a treat – It was supposed to drop in the early parts of 2010 but that seems unlikely now, keep an eye out for it anyway.

Blue Daisy – Strings Detached EP
Black Acre

Even though this EP dropped late last year i’ve only just got round to listening to it and to be fair I wish I got round to it sooner because it’s simply incredible. If you’re looking for more of a dubstep meets instrumental hip-hop type of sound then look no further, Blue Daisy is your man. The EP kicks off with the self-titled track, Strings Detached. With it’s very mellow tone it expands in an array of loopy rhythms which flow quite nicely in to what has to be my favourite track, Hunterz. Plagued with an undertone of head smashing bass it sets the tone for a faster paced dash in the disappointingly short encounter, Wolf. The final track brings the EP back round to it’s original mellow ambiance with a middle-eastern tinge. The track finishes by coming to what is in my opinion an abrupt end, after rapidly accelerating to its maximum amplitude it collapses entirely. This is quite simply an outstanding EP which I seriously recommend you get, Blue Daisy is definitely a talent to watch out for in the future.

I’m a week or so behind on this but I really do love this song. I’d say it was the first Delphic song which I actually enjoyed, and the one which prompted me to listen to the rest of the band’s material. Although ‘Counterpoint’ may have overtaken this track now, it’s still one which I love. I have to admit the lyrics are a little emotional about breaking up but the instrumental is great. Check the video out below. The official release date for the track is March 15th. I really hope it does well as it’s fantastic.

I know I haven’t posted in a while but I’ve just been a bit busy lately. Here’s a quick post of some brilliant tracks i’ve been meaning to throw your way for a few weeks now.

For those of you who are familiar with the British musical outfit UNKLE, will be glad to know that they’ve announced the release of their new full length album, ‘Where Did The Night Fall’ on May 10th in Europe and on May 11th in North America. To celebrate this release, they’ve been streaming the new track Natural Selection which features The Black Angels for a couple of days now, but it’s only now they’ve released the free download. Unlike their previous albums which have featured both the trip-hop and electro genres, ‘Where Did The Night Fall’ has more of a rock feel to it. Visit the site for more details or you can just listen here.

UNKLE – Natural Selection (feat. The Black Angels) | Mediafire

Next up it’s an artist I should have really brought to your attention in January but I was just far too lazy/busy. Hailing from the midlands, Flux Pavilion has been creeping up the dubstep scene for a while now and it seems his new EP ‘Voscillate / Night Goes On’ has brought him some well-deserved mainstream attention. Both tracks are incredible, the blend of the lyrics falls effortlessly over the beat and makes for two brilliant tracks. I seriously recommend you check this guy if you haven’t already.

Flux Pavilion – Night Goes On | Mediafire

Voscillate / Night Goes On is out now – Buy It Here.

The ‘Ultra Heat Treated EP’ is the Brighton based producer, Slugabed‘s first 12″ release on Planet Mu. Although most people would just slap the dubstep sticker on his music, there’s a lot more to his music than you think. Yeah, ok you might find a few wobbles here and there, but unlike most other producers, his music incorporates a glitchy-alternative beat over some fractured hip-hop and maybe even some electro. It might not go down well with everyone but I love it. The EP consists of 6 tracks which all bring something different to the table, check it out.

The Ultra Heat Treated EP is out now – Buy It Here.

To finish off with I thought i’d just post a track that I seriously can’t get out of my head. The new Four Tet album ‘There Is Love In You’ has been out since late January and to be fair I rather enjoyed it. The abstract electro-meets-dance goes down pretty well with my ears. Having said that, it was only by chance my iPod shuffled on to the track She Just Likes to Fight. Now normally I don’t go for the very ‘chilled out, laid back emotional roller coaster of a ride’ track but i’m a sucker for this one. What a brilliant way to end an album.

There Is Love In You is out now – Buy It Here.

The first single from the album is entitled Stylo and features none other than Mos Def and Bobby Womack. I seriously cannot wait for this album to drop, their debut self-titled album ‘Gorillaz’ and their second album ‘Demon Days’ were both incredible and I expect nothing less from their upcoming project. You can definitely expect a review from us when it does release but until then you can listen to Stylo as a taster.

A couple of weeks ago we were sent some music by a musician/electronic producer based in San Francisco known as Edison. If i’m completely honest with you I didn’t have a clue who he was and what type of music he made. Nevertheless, I was bored so I thought i’d check the e-mail out. The first thing it had was a youtube link attached to it which is just insane, make sure you watch it here…

Now, the ridiculous amount of hand-eye co-ordination needed aside that is what I call some good music. What you’re looking at there is a Monome player (a 64 button beat machine) built from an old lunch box. Weird, I know but stay with me. The video was done in real time and one take, with the sound recorded straight into the camera. Granted, it might not be everyone’s cup of tea but if you’re the type of person who, like me can happily listen to some ‘glitched out and melodic’ beats than this artist is definitely for you.

The album itself, has in my opinion four stand out tracks although it does seem to blend so seemlessly as a whole. The first of these four tracks is actually the first track on the album, Tonka Truck – which is actually the track in the video above, the other three are Chopping At The Crab Tree, Introductions and Latitude and the Egadz! remix to Bellows. Now normally, when I review music I would explain why i like the specific track but in this case I can’t seem to decribe them properly – my words don’t actually do them justice. So i’ll try and keep this simple. It’s his attention to detail in each track which makes them so effortlessly amicable. Although, in essence they’re broken samples he’s gathered, he makes them seem so melodious and organic.

I’ve now had the album for over two weeks and it’s already got over 150 plays on my last.fm. Normally, by now any album thats got this amount of plays in such a short period of time i’m bored of. Yet, i’m listening to it now and i’m still loving it. The glitched out percussion throughout is seriously incredible whilst the way he continuously flips from one beat into another will keep you hooked. Make sure you check this out…

All The Information At Hand is out December 22nd – Buy it from Kid Without Radio.

Just a quick one today and what better way to start then with The XX. Having already made a name for themselves in ’09 with easily one of the best albums of the year, the band from London are now showing us some more of their skills. Only this time it’s with their remix of Florence + The Machine’s – You’ve Got The Love. The best way to sum up the end product would simply be – Incredible. The band lay their own chilled out version of the lyrics over a much darker beat and the result really is something else. This one is a must listen.

XX is out now – Buy it here.

With his new EP – ‘Who Are You? / 8000′ dropping last week it seems the hard-hitting Russian Electro DJ Proxy has done it again with his new release. Its full of all the dark and hard hitting electro beats you would expect from him, and if that wasn’t enough for you then there are also two remixes from none other than The Bloody Beetroots on there as well. The sound is unreal, I seriously suggest you go out and buy it. I’ll give you a link for one of the Beetroots remixes that he’s given away for free and the track 8000 as a taster…

I’m back of holiday and so I think I’ll start posting again. Whilst on holiday I really did get into a lot of Blues/Soft Rock music so if you have any, then please send it to me. There’s a good chance I’ll feature it if you send it to me soon.

Anyway onto music. One album I’m really looking forward to is, surprising, Pitbull’s new album. Admittedly I’ve only heard two tracks off of it, “Hotel Room Service” and “I Know You Want Me.” If you live in the UK you probably would have heard “I Know You Want Me” over the previous few months, but Hotel Room Service is an equally good pop song. It has a great electro sample at the beginning which really makes the song and I enjoyed the song. The rapping isn’t great but the Eurodance production by Jim Jonsin is really good. Check it out on YouTube below.

Pitbull – Hotel Room Service

Rebelution is out August 31st. Pre-Order it here.

I still haven’t got a chance to listen to Tinchy Stryder‘s new album, however from the few I had already heard before I went away, I didn’t think the album would have too many tracks I’d enjoy. Anyway I read on Wikipedia that Tinchy’s fourth single from the album will be “You’re Not Alone,” which samples Olive’s song of the same name which was a big hit in 1997. I YouTubed the song and then quickly decided I had to buy it. I only just noticed iTunes provides music in 256kbps so I used that instead of Amazon and don’t regret it. The sampling on the song is really good and the rapping as always fits the beat. Check it out on YouTube below.

We recently got sent some stuff in the inbox which I really liked. The first song is called a duo called SUNBEARS! and the song is called “I’m Alive.” The song is a few months old but I hadn’t heard of it before. The song has a really emphatic opening and chorus with the full array of instruments and trumpets, then softens down to a melodic keyboard for the verses. It’s a really good song, I think I recognise if from somewhere but can’t put my finger on it. The other song is by Trevor Giuliani and is called “Wasting Your Town.” It’s a really nice laid back rock song. The simple laid back guitar and piano riffs make for a song which is brilliant for relaxing to on a summers day. Check them both out below.

Well Zane Low and Annie Mac played some brand new Bloc Party yesterday. The reception so far is mixed, some saying its a ‘failed club track’, but I wouldn’t put it that way personally. What you have to accept with Bloc is that they’re constantly moving forward style-wise (which is why some people think bar Silent Alarm they’re poor, but its all down to taste at the end of the day), and so this does seem to have a more advanced ‘Intimacy’ feel. The piano is decent as is the rest of the instrumental, but I’m unsure over Kele’s vocals. Anyhow, it does have some trademark Blo parts to it so have a listen..

Bloc Party – One More Chance

Secondly, the CLASSIC club track, ‘You’re Not Alone’, by Olive, has been remixed by the rather good Dave Darell. Except the actual track is labelled as being by Liz Kay (the vocalist), not Olive, so tag it how you want. I probably prefer Dave’s remix of ‘Suddenly’ but this is still good, another excellent build-up & drop, so well worth a liste. I see him as a non-crap/commercial Klaas really, they both have a similar style but I prefer Darell.

Liz Kay – You’re Not Alone 2009 (Dave Darell Remix)

Thirdly a new Designer Drugs remix, of The Secret Handshake‘s ‘Make Up Your Mind’. The mix of the somewhat corny American vocals with DD’s trademark style is pretty good, one of my favourite remixes of theirs in a while.

The Secret Handshake – Make Up Your Mind (Designer Drugs Remix)

And lastly a new remix by Afrikan Boy of K’naan‘s ‘T.I.A.’. I’ll listen to anything involving the latter so I quite like this, Afrikan Boy has 2 verses in it, both are decent.

K’naan – T.I.A. (Remix feat. Afrikan Boy)

Well I’d thought ‘Day N Nite’ and all the remixes/versions that went with it were long gone but apparently not. Favourite rapper of mine K’naan has done a version called ‘Dayless Nite’ and raps about pirates and other such matters. Nothing amazing but more about the lyrics than the song I feel. And it sounds like he has a cold haha.

Santigold (yes, we all preferred Santogold) has also had a new track leaked called ‘Anne’s Plan’ and features good friend of Mr Cudi, Chip Tha Ripper. Not a bad track, nothing as good as on her debut album though I reckon. I do like the rapping quite a bit though, impressed me more than on Cudi’s mixtape last summer.

Last Friday as well as the original ‘Remedy’ by Little Boots being played, Annie Mac also played Rusko‘s remix of it. Unfortunately the radio-rip is all I’ve got but its pretty good anyway, keeps the start of the original before dropping into the dubstep.

Lastly I have a mash-up for you all. I’d say about 85% of mashups are just crap, this though is not at all. And its a surprising mix. Jason Mraz‘s ‘I’m Yours’ vs the legendary Shaggy‘s ‘It Wasn’t Me’. I don’t even have the original ‘I’m Yours’ but I don’t really want it either, specially not after this mash-up!
