I wrote about Marmaduke Duke a month or so ago now when their album first leaked onto the internet. I’ll do a full review now seeing as the album is out on Monday and I’ve had more of a chance to listen to it.
The album opens with the slow paced track “Heartburn.” The song is a solid opening to the album and does feature a good instrumental however it lacks the eccentricity the rest of the album has. “Everybody Dance” makes up for that in leaps and bounds though, with the catchy opening guitar riff and simple lyrics making for a very good upbeat track before coming to its frantic finale.
The track after this, “Silhouettes,” has to be my favourite track on the album. I post it a month ago and I just love the beat, guitar and lyrics. For me, it really is a superb track and I’d love to see it as a single. Other highlights on the album include “Kid Gloves” which is a song which gets better as it goes on and the frantic “Pandemonium,” which lasts 7 minutes and goes through a full range of tempos, beats and emotions and the ending with the echoing “Get One Together” makes for a great finish to the track. “Je Suis Un Funky Homme” is another good track on the album with its brilliant guitar riff and chorus although the frantic high voice after the chorus isn’t really to my taste.
The album does lose a couple of points though. The albums is fairly short and I think that a few more tracks would have made it that bit better. The vocals also can get annoying in some songs and sometimes the lyrics feel a little uninspired.
Despite this I really do love Marmaduke Duke’s different approach to music and their sound is brilliant and fresh. The album is released on Monday and I’ll include a pre-order link below. I’ll re-link to Silhouettes and also Pandemonium and Je Suis Un Funky Homme.
