It’s Sunday and I really don’t have much to post or any promotional stuff. Therefore, I’ll post about this band as ever since downloading their EP I’ve absolutely loved them. The band is Two Door Cinema Club and the EP in question is Four Words to Stand On. It was released last year to a small audience. However having given it a listen it is a really promising start from a band I hope to hear a lot more about in the future.

The EP opens with Cigarettes In The Theatre – a rhythm guitar driven song with an uptempo beat and some good, loud vocals. Later arrives the synths for a frantic end to a frantic opener, very fitting  for the album. The next song, Do You Want It All? has a slower tempo to it with much more emphasis on the vocals for the most part of the song. The percussion is much tamer though and the backing vocals give a for melodic feel to the song. It has a structure fairly similar to The Wombats actually, the repeating chorus and backing vocals. it’s just not as busy, although with some Bloc Party elements thrown in. New Houses is another solid song, tame but at the same time interesting with the high pitched chorus and synths which come in towards the end, it’s probably one of the most melodic songs on the album for the most part. My favourite single on the EP has to be Undercover Martyn – I just love the guitar, the quick tempo and the vocals. Again if i could buy this, I would. Just love it. The album ends on Standing On Ghosts which really switches between quite a few instruments, from guitars to synths to brass becoming prominent. I really like the instrumental in the verse though, reminds me a lot of Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly.

My only criticism of the album could be that a few of the song share a similar structure, especially in the chorus. However, if the structure works then of course there’s no need to change it. The band are a must for anybody who liked the mainstream indie stuff from a couple of years ago, such as The Wombats, Get Cape and Bloc Party. The songs are all great, they all show off the band in a great light and I think they have a lot of potential. Hopefully an album is on the horizon, because it’d be a great shame if it isn’t.

Anyway on a new note, Two Door Cinema Club do have a new single out soon called “I Can Talk” hopefully followed by an album release. The single is out on November 16th and you can hear a preview of it below off YouTube.
