Asher Roth – Asleep in the Bread Aisle

Yo and welcome to my new album rating system thang. Pretty straight-forward really. Just a way to show y’all how highly/lowly I think of an album release. But really, Asleep in the Bread is the album of 2009 so far with consummate ease. Since, I first blogged on it a week ago, it has grown and grown on me. Its hot shit man. Barring two tracks, i would actually post every single song on here if i could. Here’s the latest one that has found a key to my heart =)

The main focus on today’s post though is on a relatively unknown, well unknown bad to me anyway; Chester French. Stumbled across these guys on my beloved last.fm and found out they are signed to Pharrell’s Star-Trak record label. Musically and with his general swagger, Pharrell is a class-act. This promted me to investigate.

Their mixtape was a free download off their website. I liked the concept. Its all one big story about their seemingly quick rise to small fame with some amusing skits and several featuring artists. Seriously when I saw the likes of Jermaine Dupri, Wale, Kardinal Offishall, Bun B, Pharell, Busta Rhymes, Solange Knowles, Lady Gaga, Talib Kweli, Cassie AND Common on one mixtape; I was taken aback! However, maybe they aint my genre but the delivery was a bit meh imo. A few good songs. Rest seemingly average. It just so happens their debut album ‘Love the Future’ hit the stores yesterday. Check back here for that review and its very own ‘love-hearted’ rating soon. In the meantime I shall leave you with the pick of the bunch. Oh, if you’re that keen, you may see find them on Asher Roth’s tune As I Em, singing the hook. ALL DAY LONG, ALL DAY LONG.
Peace.

You really over hype Asher Roth. I’m listening to the album on Spotify now and it’s average. 6 or 7 / 10 tops.
