New MGMT, Young Money & N-Dubz

March 11th, 2010 | 1 Comment | By blikrophiliac

Quite alot of stuff to post today.

First up a single of MGMT’s forthcoming album Congratulations which is scheduled to drop on April 13. No singles are being released from the album so you’re gonna have to click here to get yourself that. I like it when artists take time to make their album artwork look good. This one is a good example. Oracular Spectacular was amazing, I hope this is too.

Congratulations is out April 13. Get the track here.

Next up, new N-Dubz. I’m not gonna lie, their sophomore album, Against All Odds is pretty good. I cant be bothered to outline their recent ‘beef’ with Lethal Bizzle but their twitter states that they may be signed to USA Def Jam as early as next week. Not bad at all. Check out the video to ‘Say its Over’ here ..

Against All Odds
is out now.

As I’m sure you’re aware, Lil Wayne has finally gone into jail after a couple weeks of delays. Alot of talk has been brewing about who is gonna carry Young Money whilst he’s gone. Young Money assure us that we’re going to see plenty of Weezy whilst he’s inside, he was rumoured to have shot 30 music videos in the time before he went in ensure everything was in place for his incarceration. Drake’s lead single of his eagerly anitcipated ‘Thank Me Later’ landed a few days back, check that here, and the sexy Nicki Minaj has been featuring on several tracks lately to bolster their prominent position in todays hip-hop game. Recently, their new video landed to ‘Roger That’. A tune that only features Wayne, Tyga and Nicki; but still a very good video nonetheless.

Cant wait for that Carter IV.

We Are Young Money is in stores now. Get that shit.

Pendulum – Watercolour

Pendulum’s new track, ‘Watercolour’, received it’s first airplay on Zane Lowe’s show last night, after a month or so of first being played during a set at Matter. I really like this personally. It’s exactly what you’d expect from Pendulum to be honest, the loud bass (which I’m sure will be bigger on the final track), the classic synths and the almost shouted and processed vocals. It’s nothing especially fresh but it’s as good as always, and they remain one of the few bringing Drum n Bass to the masses. Check out a preview below.

Gorillaz – Stylo (Labrinth Remix feat. Tinie Tempah)

Gorillaz - Stylo

I don’t know why but Gorillaz’s new album has totally passed me by without too much of a second thought. I listened to it but just wasn’t grabbed. It may be one of those albums I look back on in a few years and think “damn, I should have listened to that.” Stylo, the albums first single, has been remixed by Labrinth and features Tinie Tempah, and the results sound great. The remix isn’t the newest, but it’s been posted quite a lot in response to Tinie Tempah claiming the #1 spot yesterday. This song is seriously great though, love the electro beats and 8 bit sounds. It actually reminds me quite a bit of the production on Pass Out if I’m totally honest.

New Akon & Crookers

March 5th, 2010 | No Comments | By George

I’ve had so much to post today but I think this’ll be the last of it. Couple of good electro tracks here, although both have flaws if I’m totally honest, which I’ll get to when I discuss them in a minute. Only news I’ve read is that Katy Perry is appearing in the new Smurfs film, leading The Sun to use the same joke about a blue movie for throughout their entire article.

More news, Russell Lissack, lead guitarist of Bloc Party fame, is set to release his debut album in new side project ‘Pin me Down’ – and based on the samples on MySpace it’s Bloc Party of the old with a female singer. Can’t wait for that, the album will be released April 19th.

On to music, the first new track is from Akon and is produced by his new best friend David Guetta, and is called ‘Party Animal’. The production is quite good on this,a nd I’m actually looking forward to this album from Akon. Shamefully though, there were a few songs I enjoyed off the last album so that’s nothing new. Good production from Guetta, some house vibes towards the chorus however, the chorus seems kind of lacking from Akon. Enjoyable though, although the “sexy and you know it” bit ruins the flow for me. Check it out below.

The other new track is from Crookers and features Will.I.Am and is called ‘Let’s Get Beezy’. There’s also a track featuring Pitbull but I don’t like it, Pitbull just doesn’t fit with the track at all. Will has been collabing on a few dance tracks recently, obviously with the Peas whole direction which is bordering on dance as well as with Steve Aoki. I really like both of these, and this is no different. I really like the production from Crookers and the rapping from Will.I.Am works. Love the chorus as well, good track.

Kaya – Rat Race (DJ Reaction Dubstep Remix)

With dubstep growing in popularity so quickly, it makes sense that more dubstep remixes are springing up all over the place. This latest remix is by DJ Reaction, and is a remix of Kaya’s ‘Rat Race.’ It’s not one of the hardest dubstep tracks you’re going to hear, switching between the big dub and the calmer interludes. It doesn’t seem to suffer due to this though; the soul vocals sound great over it and it’s very enjoyable to listen to. Check it out below.

New Fabolous Mixtape & New Drake

March 5th, 2010 | No Comments | By blikrophiliac

I took an unexpected hiatus from the blog game. Apologies for that.

Straight into it though; the first single from the higly anticipated debut album from Toronto-born Drake landed this morning to a mixed reception. Tune has Boi-1da on the beat and a chorus from Drake that isnt really up to his usual standards. This tune won’t be a number one hit by any stretch of the imagination, but its solid nonetheless.

Thank Me Later drops May.

Now, to a new mixtape from Brooklyn favourite Fabolous. Loso’s Way was so sick. Aint had a chance to listen to this but apparently its impressive. Check it out.

Alan Wilkis Remixes RJD2

March 5th, 2010 | No Comments | By George | Photo Courtesy of sacks08

I’ve been a big fan of Alan Wilkis for ages, and I think I start off every post about him saying near enough the same thing. He has a passion for music, and I think this shows strongly in all the work he produces. His productions always seem to have had everything though out, every layer combining to create a brilliant result. His latest remix is of RJD2’s track ‘The Shining Path’ – which features Phonte of Little Brother fame. On the surface, Alan has approached this remix differently. The synths are still there, they’re just not as quick and lively as usual. Instead the production is reminiscent of a classic RnB track – the bassline, the slow tempo – with some 8 bit sounds thrown in to keep it modern. It’s fantastic, and better than the original in my opinion. The track also has a feel of summer to it, which is brilliantly timed for the sunshine we have now.

New Two Door Cinema Club Tracks

Two Door Cinema Club - Undercover Martyn

Two Door Cinema Club released their album yesterday and I’ve got my copy, it’s fantastic. My favourite song off it has to be ‘Come Back Home’ – I’m absolutely in love with the track and it comes very close to the original ‘Undercover Martyn’ in terms of energy and enjoyability. Anyway as literally everybody on my Facebook begins to jump on the bandwagon, a couple of fresh tracks have surfaced, both of which I really enjoyed.

The first track is called ‘Kids’ and is off the Japanese release of Tourist History. It’s a great track, probably would have been one of my favourite off the album if it was on there. The drum machine combined with the catchy guitars combine to form a very good track with some nice lyrics. Very nice ending as well, and for me it just fits that last track niché a bit better than ‘You’re Not Stubborn.’ Check it out below.

The other track I saw on Stereogum the other day and listened to the Passion pit remix of ‘Undercover Martyn’ and I really enjoyed it. The synths fitted brilliantly with the vocals and the drum machine added an slight retro feel to the track which I really liked. It’s a really neat instrumental, however I don’t think they could improve on the original. Passion pit have done very well though – the remix is very original unlike a lot now days. Check it out below.
